I am a qualified EMMETT Technique practitioner and EMM-TECH Tutor.
The EMMETT Technique is a unique body therapy created by Ross Emmett, in Australia, that uses light finger pressure at specific places on the body. It may be enjoyed by people of all ages, from babies to the elderly.
How does it work?
It is based on the belief that light touch can trigger a relaxation response in the soft tissue of the body, and that the therapy may help relieve tensions resulting in feeling of improved comfort.
Symptoms that may be assisted:
The relaxing nature of the technique results in people reporting typical responses such as:
- Improved comfort and ease within the area treated such as back, abdomen, hips, legs, knees, ankles feet, shoulders, arms, hands and neck
- More restful sleep
- Enhanced mood
- A sense of lightness within the body
What should you expect?
You may be asked some questions about your general heath and the reason for your visit. Treatments may be done while you are fully clothed although some garments may need to be removed or loosened. While individual experiences may vary, relief is often instantaneous.
The Emmett Technique is a complete therapy on its own but it has the ability to work in combination with other techniques.
I offer it as a standalone 30 minute appointment, or it can be booked as part of a longer Massage or Reflexology session. Please book the total time you require under Emmett, Massage or Reflexology etc.
My clients feedback: pain has eased, that knees are less stiff, that they can stride longer during a run, or that they have improved range of neck movement
I have been so blown away with EMMETT Technique that I now also run 1 day introductory Emm-tech workshops so that individuals may use Emmett moves at home on their friends and family (see below).
Ross Emmett originally used his technique on animals such as horses and dogs, and you can still attend course on Emmett for Horse or Emmett for Dogs, here in the UK. See the UK website for more details.
EMM-TECH: short course in easy muscle management.
The course will provide you with tools to simply and effectively trigger a relaxation response in 11 key muscles. For example EMMETT Releases taught will cover the following two moves (plus 9 others taking you from head to foot):
* Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) for neck rotation.
* Latissimus dorsi for where there is a “dragging” under the arm and lower back tightness.
The results from these moves are usually immediate – you will be able to see and feel the changes for yourself and after only a short demonstration and practice you will be able to achieve the same kind of results for you or your friends.
The course costs £100 and runs from 9.30am till 6pm and it includes a Training Guide. PLEASE NOTE - the course is open to all members of the public and no prior knowledge is required. You may use the moves on your friends and family, you will receive a certificate of attendance, but this is not a professional qualification.
Edinburgh dates: Friday 19th August, or Saturday 9th November 2019.
